We will pick you up from your hotel and begin the journey to the Andes mountain range. Along the way, we’ll make a stop at a service area where you can enjoy breakfast and use the restrooms before continuing our route. Our first notable stop will be the Chacabuco monument, which honors the historic Battle of Chacabuco and Chile’s fight for independence. From there, we’ll proceed to the Jump of the Soldier, a place with a unique and intriguing history, adding depth to our adventure. Next, we will drive up to the Chile-Argentina border, where you can capture memorable photos of the stunning mountain landscape that marks the boundary between the two countries.
Continuing our exploration, we will visit the breathtaking Inca Lagoon and the ski resort of Portillo, situated at an impressive altitude of 2,680 meters. You’ll have about two hours to soak in the spectacular views and enjoy the crisp mountain air in this remarkable setting. After this time, we will begin our descent from the highlands and head to a nearby restaurant where you can enjoy a well-deserved lunch. This day promises a perfect mix of history, nature, and culture, making for an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Andes.

We stayed a week at Hotel Portillo Will never stay here again unless a luxury brand re-does the whole thing The mountain is beautiful Being so close to Santiago, I would much rather drive up and back for day trips Details on Hotel Portillo Pre-Arrival communication - excellent and responsive. Juan Beiza and Jefe at the front desk. Rooms - very tiny and extremely dusty. Balconies inexplicably have no chairs on them. Room keys stopped working every day. We had to get new keys 5 days. Restaurant - probably the worst restaurant food we have ever had. I don’t know how it could be so bad. Very limited choices and mostly just very bland food. There is way more flavor at McDonalds or Chipotle. Even worse was the basic cleanliness. On one occasion, my wife had not received a dinner roll. She asked for one. The server turned around to a table that had abreast finished their dinner and left. He took a “used” roll from that table and handed it to my wife. We saw staff sneeze directly into silverware. We saw dirty plates being out right next to clean ones. This restaurant would fail the most basic of inspections. To add insult to injury, the very old owner sits at a round table every day and “holds court”. We watched his whole table get served these beautiful looking sushi plates while the rest of the paying customers were served inedible atrocious food. I’m sure he was laughing at all the dummies paying him so much money for cheap bad food. And once again the food was atrocious (as many other reviews have already stated) The biggest problem is that you are stuck with this food. There’s no town or anything other restaurants. It’s Hotel Portillo’s prison food or nothing. The ice cream was very good though. Maybe I should have just had 3 bowls of ice cream every meal and skipped the rest. General Facilities - only 2 very tiny elevators but the whole hotel and one was broken nearly every day. Everything you see is about as you would expect if you were at a hotel in 1955. Gym - good size and adequate equipment. Good enough. Hot Tubs - large and nice. Excellent bar staff that checks on everyone regularly. Ski access - perfect Staff - Mostly good. Housekeepers are exceptionally helpful and friendly. If you don’t speak Spanish, can be some issues communicating with front desk staff Ski storage - amazing staff. The main boot guy (wish I remembered his name) was there every day of my stay Sept6-13. This guy was amazing. I gave him my boots just once - the rest of the week he saw me walking in and had my boots by the time I reached his desk. Ski guys were great too, although, like normal humans, I had to show them my ticket every day. Made the boot guy look even better. Ski shop on site with friendly staff. Bar - excellent cocktails Overall - depends who you are. If you don’t mind very tasteless food, limited choices with no alternate options and zero restaurant hygiene, you’ll be okay. If you don’t mind kids screaming being heard through paper thin walls, you’ll be fine. If you don’t mind old dusty rooms around 40 sqm / 130 sqf, you’ll be fine. But if the above are not consistent with $7000-$10000 a week in your opinion, then just stay in Santiago and take some day trip tours to ski. Or stay in one of the cheaper options - Hotel Portillo gives around $200/night of value so might as well actually pay $200/night, have lunch at Tio Bobs and a la carte dinner. It’s a beautiful mountain and the lifts spin from 9-5 so you can get a ton of turns in during a day trip. And you’ll prob make a few new friends too, people are super friendly here! If you do ski Portillo, be sure to eat lunch up at Tio Bob’s and find Hano. He’s awesome and that place is a great spot with a spectacular view!

We absolutely loved this place. The only negative I would say was the size of the room. We were in a lake view unit on the third floor. Very small but goodness the morning view was unbelievable. Meals were always good and the restaurant staff was fantastic. We loved Didier in the dining room. The skiing was next level. Not enough room on a review to say how awesome the ski resort is laid out, abundance of terrain, and killer no lift lines. Additional shout outs to Ulysses from the front desk, Freddy from the helicopter guides, Dylan our helicopter guide, and Ana from housekeeping. Every single hotel employee seemed genuinely excited to be there and to service their guests. Bell staff were well coordinated to handle large check in and check outs. There was so much to do at the resort that we didn't even get to do it all. We do not speak much Spanish and didn't have much of an issue getting around. Highly recommend a stay at Hotel Portillo.

We travelled from Australia to stay here to ski for four nights. This is an amazing location. The accommodation is good. The service is good. The package including lift pass and food removes a lot of hassle. The skiing was great with well-groomed runs and well-managed lifts. There are family-friendly activities inside including games and gymnasium. The ski hire is integral to the hotel and excellent. One gripe. The meal regime is outdated and restrictive. Forced sittings with a rushed vibe. The food itself if good but not spectacular given the couple of hundred guests they serve simultaneously. If they address this then this will be unbeatable option for skiing in Chile!

We enjoyed our stay but the two girls in the gift shop made us feel very uncomfortable. They followed us around the gift shop like we were criminals and seemed very rude and unwelcoming. They sell a hat pin for $10.000. These are gringo prices. I found one in Santiago for $2.000. We enjoyed the hotel but the girls in the gift shop need training.

This is a ski resort, so it was extremely difficult to know if it was open during the summer months. We stopped to visit the lake, which is breathtaking, and we noticed that the hotel was open. We just visited the lobby (and the bathrooms). It has a wall filled with photographic ski history of the place, which is pretty interesting. We did not see the rooms.
