It was such a great experience visiting the Accademia di Firenze! The sculptures and paintings are absolutely wonderful, and the place is quite large - you’ll need plenty of time to explore. I bought a skip-the-line ticket in advance, so I didn’t have to wait at all and could enter right away. Totally worth it! Otherwise, you’ll have to queue for a long time.

If you play classical music, go to this museum. All the crowd is in the art galleries and David, and the music room gets underrated. You dont even need to be that good at music history. I am terrible with music history and I still had a great time. They had lots of stringed instrument, a few woodwinds lime the clarinet and they had some percussion instruments and my favourite was the room filled with keyed instruments. The crowds in the art gallery aren't too bad either, even David wasn't that bad. The best was to avoid crowds is to recognise tour groups, and try to stay in the space between them because they usually keep separate from eachother. I am not the kind of person who sees the beauty in visual art but I know some people do, and if you are that kind of person, the sculptures are very impressive too.

There are no words that truly prepare you for seeing Michelangelo’s David in person. The detail, the scale, the presence—it stops you in your tracks. The museum itself is intimate compared to others in Florence, but that makes the moment with David even more powerful. The other exhibits are worth lingering for—Renaissance paintings, sculptures, and musical instruments—but let’s be honest, this is David’s house. 🌎🗺️ Tip: Book your ticket ahead of time, or you’ll spend hours in line. Go early in the morning for a quieter experience.

Standing in front of Michelangelo's David was an experience and one of the highlights of a visit to Tuscany and Florence. The feeling of admiration and awe for Michelangelo's genius and masterpiece is indescribable. In addition to David, the gallery is rich in other statues that are equally impressive. We arrived earlier then our appointment and there was a crowd, so we have to wait to get in, and it took us approx. 45 minutes to get in Academia, which was the longest waiting time that we experienced in Florence. Everywhere else it was max 20 min of wait. We did have Firenzecard so we only had to book an appointment for which we did 2 days before the visit, in Uffizi Gallery so we did save some time. Additionally, thanks to the Firenzacard, we were able to get into Academia. When we got in Tuscany, we checked online and the gallery was sold out for all appointments in May and half of June. If we didn't have the Firenzacard, we wouldn't have been able to visit it. You will need several hours for the visit and not to rush through the gallery, so my advice is to plan your time well. We took our time to enjoy our visit so we were in Academia from 14:30 until 16:45. Anyone planning to stay in Tuscany and Florence for more than one or two days, I highly recommend to get the Firenzacard. Makes visits to palazzo, museums and galleries that much easier and pleasant.

The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze was one of the top things I had in mind when I started planning our trip to Florence! I am so glad we went. We did buy our tickets far in advance and still had to wait a bit. The area is very busy and they do not let everyone in at once. The gallery is stunning, it has lots of art work displayed in every room. The Statue of David of course was a show stopper, however there are many statues in there that are also jaw dropping! I loved the room of statues and statue heads. And all the artwork had names and most had descriptions as well. I would allot a good two hours or more if you would like to see and read about everything! Also the music portion of the gallery is awesome, lots of information and instrument evolution if you are into that! Only doc is the bathroom situation.
