Step back in time on this small-group walking tour through London’s wartime history, where stories of resilience, courage, and survival come vividly to life. Guided by an expert local historian, you will explore the city’s iconic sites that endured the Blitz, witnessing how Londoners faced unimaginable challenges with determination and hope. Begin at St. Paul’s Cathedral, a true symbol of strength, which survived direct bomb hits and became a beacon of inspiration for the city. Hear about the heroic firemen who protected it, and then move on to the ruins of Christ Church Greyfriars, now a peaceful memorial garden, reflecting both the devastation and the enduring spirit of London. Along the way, discover the tragic story of Bank Station, where air raids claimed numerous civilian lives, and stroll past St. Dunstan-in-the-East, a once-damaged church now transformed into a serene garden, embodying London’s remarkable recovery. Visit All Hallows by the Tower, one of the city’s oldest churches, which survived the bombings and offered sanctuary to many during the air raids, while outside the Tower of London, learn about wartime prisoners, including Josef Jakobs, the last person executed there during WWII, highlighting the Tower’s strategic role in wartime intelligence.
The tour concludes with a self-guided visit to HMS Belfast, a historic warship that played a pivotal role during WWII, from the D-Day landings to the Arctic Convoys. Step aboard to explore the decks, gun turrets, engine rooms, and crew quarters, gaining a deeper understanding of the bravery and sacrifices of Britain’s naval forces. This immersive experience not only offers a powerful insight into London’s darkest days but also celebrates the city’s resilience, courage, and determination to rebuild. From bombed-out churches to a living testament of naval history, this tour provides a comprehensive and unforgettable journey through London’s wartime past, bringing history to life for every visitor.

Beautiful historical place also free to visit, I think everyone should visit this place atleast ones specially with kids . Our kids should know more about it . explores how conflict affects society, daily life, art, memory, and national identity, moving beyond solely military hardware and battlefield strategy. I was amazed by everything.

Brilliant throughout, lots of space, although it does get busy. The cafe sells quality produce at a price, great seating area. The toilets are clean, but the hand-wash facilities need attention, it takes twice as long as it should to wash your hands, water is temperamental, soap, good luck, and drying, you'll be better off blowing them dry. However it was a great day out

Amazing free day out. You could spend all day here if you read every little bit of information. Very well displayed and so many stories to read. Very clean and some nice items in the shops

In general, the imperial war museum is a very nice experience. But it was also possible to see that a lot of these units while good taking care of, they are not having the same kind of life that I was able to see like in the Royal Air Force Museum. The visitors here will experience a lot more of politics, pat human interactions, and while these are essential elements of any kind of war, it is something that is getting on your mood especially if you go to the Holocaust section. I guess I was a little bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of evidences that have been presented at the Holocaust section and it got me really, it really got under my skin.

A gorgeous museum with powerful display that need no words to describe. The museum is free to enter but will gladly accept donations. They have displays for both WW I and II, holocaust, and a gallery for sexual violence during war time. The impacts it made on individuals and community. Very powerful. Having lots to look through across 4 floors, I would highly recommend planning for a full day if you want to take your time. They also include 3 shops, one aimed for the younger visitors, a book shop and a second shop for souvenirs.
