The passionate winemaker in Kakheti, his eyes shining as we spoke with respect at his small winery... the lady in a local restaurant in Kazbegi, watching over our meal with joy... the young girl in a hotel in Mtskheta, laughing with delight at my broken Georgian. In the end, what stayed with me more than the landscapes were the faces of the people. This is something my two guides helped me realize. Rati, our main guide—young, kindhearted, and close to nature—always led us with quiet thoughtfulness. David, cheerful yet gentlemanly, not only drove us but also captured our journey with the eye of a professional filmmaker. Both of them guided us with empathy, always mindful of our feelings. This is why, when I think back on Georgia, I remember the faces of its people most vividly.

We had a fantastic time visiting Armenia and Georgia on a self-guided holiday supported by Gvantsa of Visit Georgia. Having agreed where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see, Gvantsa arranged accommodation, hire car, guides and treks across the country. In planning the trip from the UK, Gvantsa - who speaks excellent English - was extremely responsive and patient. We would definitely recommend Visit Georgia and indeed the country where we experienced warm hospitality and a variety of landscapes, cultures and foods. Don’t forget to try the churchkhela, a traditional Georgian candle-shaped candy made with nuts and grape juice!
Our tour of Georgia included vineyards and many amazing sites and places, including mountains, canoeing and caves. Our guide, Alex Chikovani, was superb. His knowledge and communication skills are excellent and he gave us insights into Georgian history, geography, food, cooking and experience that we would never have gained from a guidebook. All the usual stress of travelling was taken away from us - the transfers from one hotel to the next were seamless. We are all sad to leave. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this agency as a way to explore Georgia. A huge thank you from all of us.
