We set off towards Sesimbra, a town that has evolved from a traditional fishing village into a popular Portuguese summer resort known for its delightful restaurants, beautiful beaches, and stunning natural surroundings. From there, we continue to the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park, a haven of breath-taking landscapes revealed from various viewpoints atop the mountains, as well as pristine, paradisiacal beaches nestled at the mountain’s base. Our next stop is Setúbal, a city with a rich history dating back to ancient Phoenician and Roman times, long connected to maritime activities. Once one of the country’s most important ports in the 19th century, Setúbal offers authentic culinary experiences, and we recommend enjoying lunch at a local restaurant where you can savor fresh grilled fish or the traditional crunchy fried cuttlefish, a specialty of the region.
Before departing Setúbal, we highlight the São Filipe Fort, now converted into an inn and offering spectacular views over the city, the Sado River, Troia Peninsula, and Serra da Arrábida. Continuing our journey, we head to the Palmela region, where the nearby town of Azeitão is famed for its excellent wineries, cheeses, and delicious traditional pies. A visit to a local cellar for wine tasting is highly recommended to fully experience the region’s flavors. After this unforgettable day filled with natural beauty, history, and gastronomy, we return to Lisbon crossing the impressive Vasco da Gama Bridge, one of Europe’s longest bridges, inaugurated in 1998, offering a fitting end to a memorable tour.
