Plaza de Mayo Tour Highlights Argentina’s Political Heritage and National Memory
A guided visit to Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires is offering travelers an in-depth look at one of the most historically significant sites in Argentina. Located in the heart of the capital, the square has long served as a focal point for political events, public gatherings, and national celebrations.
Over the years, Plaza de Mayo has witnessed key moments in Argentine history, including independence-era developments and major commemorations such as the Centennial and Bicentennial festivities. The area remains a central symbol of the country’s revolutionary origins and governmental foundation.
The tour also highlights the legacy of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, who became internationally recognized for their peaceful protests demanding justice during Argentina’s military dictatorship. Their presence has transformed the square into a powerful symbol of memory and human rights.
Visitors may also explore nearby landmarks, including the mausoleum of General José de San Martín, regarded as a national hero for his role in Latin America’s independence movements. The experience provides a deeper understanding of Argentina’s past and its enduring cultural identity.

Absolutely enjoyed our city walk with Martin! What a tour guide - full of passion and understanding of the city. You can always walk around and enjoy the nice building but the walk allowed us to understand and appreciate those said nice building along with context and complicated Argentine history!
Victoria is amazing! I went on the Recoleta Cemetery tour yesterday and the free tour Recoleta and Retiro. Both were absolutely amazing! Victoria really knows the history of this place and answered all questions asked. Such a great way to learn about the history of this beautiful city. Thanks so much for an amazing experience! Here is just a few photos of the 100+ I took.
Took 3 walking tours while in BA - Recoletta, La Boca and the Cemetary tour. Thoroughly enjoyed each one , all guides were very engaging and good story tellers with a lot of passion. Highly recommend.
