Fleet Week Free USS Potomac Dockside Tour
Step aboard the historic USS Potomac during this special Fleet Week event and explore Franklin D Roosevelts famous presidential yacht at no cost. This rare open ship opportunity allows visitors to walk through an important piece of American history while discovering the remarkable journey of the vessel.
Explore the presidents stateroom and dining room where FDR worked on speeches and enjoyed his stamp collection. Visitors can also see the elegant fantail couch, crew and guest quarters, officers quarters, wheelhouse, and other historic areas throughout the vessel while learning about life aboard the presidential yacht.
Docents will be available to answer questions and share stories from Potomacs fascinating past. Hear about its presidential service, visits from the King and Queen of England, secret meetings involving Winston Churchill, later ownership by Elvis Presley, and its eventual restoration to its historic presidential appearance.
The free self guided tour is offered as one of the rare occasions when Potomac opens its decks to the public. Guests should wear flat soled shoes because of uneven surfaces and stairs between decks. Wheelchair access is limited to the main deck, while crew and docents cannot provide physical assistance.
