Presidential Yacht Potomac Historical Tour
Step aboard the historic presidential yacht Potomac and discover a remarkable chapter of American history on the water. Once used by President Franklin D Roosevelt, the fully operating vessel now serves as a floating museum and National Historic Landmark.
During the guided tour, guests can explore the presidential stateroom, dining room, galleys, crew quarters, guest quarters, wheelhouse, engine room, and fantail area where Roosevelt spent much of his time aboard the vessel. Each area offers a glimpse into life at sea during his presidency.
Roosevelt used the yacht for leisure and official business from nineteen thirty six through nineteen forty five. During its years of service, the Potomac welcomed senior government officials, presidential aides, and members of European royalty, including the King and Queen of England.
The yacht also played a role in important wartime history. Roosevelt used the Potomac for two notable operations involving larger naval vessels that carried him toward secret meetings with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during the Second World War. Guests can begin the experience with a brief historical video before joining an experienced and knowledgeable docent for the one hour tour.
