What a gem! The underground river cave is an amazing place that was only recently discovered in 2006. Our tour guide, Miguel, and his co-guides have illuminated this cave system and the Mayan culture from a deep paleontological, geological, and anthropological perspective, with their extensive knowledge and passion. The tour truly makes you appreciate both the place and the people who lived in this amazing area of Quintana Roo. The tour was also a great value because it unexpectedly included all equipment and food.

One thing I can tell for sure: not a tourist trap, at least it did not feel like one. It rather felt like a real adventure! But don’t go there if you are claustrophobic or unable to walk on the slippery ground. Be ready to spend more than an hour in a dark cave filled with cool water sometimes walking, sometimes swimming when the water gets too deep. If you are lucky, you’ll see bats and tiny catfish. All equipment (wet suits, helmets with flashlights, water shoes, life jackets, even canes) is provided. The only downside is the photography opportunities over there. Phones and cameras are not allowed in the caves (nature preservation), and the pictures made by a professional photographer cost $30 per photo. One more recommendation: have a change of clothes with you

It was surely amazing experience. We had purple line which was pretty challenging and I think can be done if you are kind of sportive, in a way that walking was difficult in some moments and holes you needed to pass were very small and narrow. But we liked it. Probably older people, or kids or not fit bodies should do another line. Our guide Leslie was very friendly. Only what turned totally down the experience was the price of the pictures. You can’t take your own so you have to pay them either 25USD on each pic or whole set (20pic) for 100USD!! That is outrageous and insane price! And you get them online not on the paper. It’s really a rip off :-(.

Awesome, but stay away from buying the pictures! Almost everything was outstanding! We loved the whole tour, our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. Both places, Rio Secreto and Tulum are totally worth to be seen, offering breathtaking views. Rio Secreto gives you the chance to do something unique and very different from other caves. It is family friendly, our 8 years old loved it! Don't be afraid to bring your kids there. Tulum offers amazing scenic views, a very wonderful place where to take some cool selfies :) - or family pictures. Only downside, and strongly recommended, is NOT to pay the pictures from the photographer at Rio Secreto. Most of the pictures were blurry and unfortunately there is no a real good way to see well those before you paid for them. But other than that I strongly recommend the package Rio Secreto + Tulum, especially if the weather is a bit cloudy and chilly.

Excellent place: far majestic and much funnier than the usual expensive parks in the region. alike Xcaret and similars: its a real adventure in real caves underground, great for family visits (I took my 3 kids, including a 4 year old) - For me, that have visited A LOT in Quintana Roo, its by far the best adventure to do - really worth wile!!!
