Etna North Volcano Expedition

Begin your Etna adventure at Piano Provenzana Etna Nord, located at approximately 1800 meters above sea level. From here, board a special 4x4 vehicle and travel along a panoramic volcanic route surrounded by ancient craters and recent lava flows. The journey offers an exciting way to discover the dramatic landscapes of Mount Etna while traveling toward the high altitude areas of the volcano.

The first stop is near the remains of the Le Betulle hotel, the only visible structure left from the buildings destroyed by the October 27, 2002 lava flow. Continue by 4x4 toward the volcanological observatory near Pizzi Deneri. After leaving the vehicle, a short 15 minute guided hike leads to the Pizzi Deneri promontory at approximately 2850 meters.

Weather permitting, the viewpoint offers impressive views across the Aeolian Islands, Ionian coast, Gulf of Giardini Naxos, and Calabria. From a safe distance, guests can also observe Etna summit craters and the vast Valle del Bove. The volcanic scenery provides a fascinating look at the natural forces that have shaped the surrounding landscape.

The adventure continues to the October 27, 2002 eruption site at approximately 1900 meters. Guests follow a circular trekking route across lava flows and volcanic material, walking along crater rims and exploring the distinctive buttonhole formations. After reaching approximately 2050 meters, enjoy views of the eruption area and lava flow before descending along a sandy slope and returning by 4x4 vehicle.
