Cape Sounion is much more than the Temple of Poseidon. There is a temple to Athena there. The Athenians built a fortress there during the Peloponnesian War in 413 BC. This included a small harbor for their triremes. The purpose of this fortress was to guard the approaches by sea to Athens. Very impressive fortifications! Please do not focus only on the point.

Honestly, it’s really beautiful and it’s extremely impressive but it is €20 per ticket to walk up to some ruins and leave which literally take a maximum of about 20 minutes even if you try to linger. I think it is ridiculously overpriced. There’s also not a lot of information there and there’s not much that I understand what I’m paying for except for a quick view. Since we didn’t manage to go to the Parthenon, we ended up spending our money here, but honestly, all of these archaeological sites are extremely expensive. If you don’t mind the price, then definitely worth it.
