Discover the creative world of flameworking during this beginner friendly glass beadmaking workshop in Lakewood Colorado. The three hour class introduces the basic skills of lampworking while participants work with a tabletop torch. The workshop is designed to help beginners understand glass, flame, tools, and safe working practices.
The session begins with an introduction to soft glass and borosilicate glass, followed by essential torch safety. The instructor demonstrates how to light the torch, use bead release, work with mandrels, and handle tools such as marvers, tweezers, claw grabbers, and mandrels.
Participants then melt and layer colorful glass rods to create their own beads. The class introduces decorative techniques such as dots and stringers, along with texturing and basic sculpting. Each participant can create approximately two to five glass beads while practicing the techniques demonstrated during the session.
The experience is suitable for participants aged 14 and above. Participants aged 12 to 17 should attend with an adult or guardian. Cotton clothing, comfortable closed toe shoes, and tied back long hair are recommended. A water bottle or beverage is also useful during the three hour workshop.
