Lake District Adventure Ghyll Takes Explorers Into a Hidden Wilderness

Deep within the Lake District, an extraordinary seven-hour adventure leads visitors into a secluded world rarely experienced by travelers. Described as a mini Amazon in northern England, this hidden section of the national park combines water, woodland, canyoning and abseiling into one action-packed journey. The experience is priced at £145 for two people, while solo adventurers can join for £200, making it an immersive way to discover a less-traveled side of the region.

The adventure begins on the water, with participants paddleboarding across a lake toward a secluded beach. From there, the route continues on foot through peaceful woodland before reaching the canyon entrance. Equipped with professional canyoning gear, participants then begin their descent through the Ghyll, surrounded by lush scenery and dramatic natural landscapes. The combination of paddleboarding, hiking and canyoning creates a varied adventure from the very first step.

The highlight comes with one of the biggest abseils in the country, adding an exhilarating finale to the canyon descent. Professional instructors guide participants throughout the experience, while free photographs capture memorable moments along the way. High-quality canyoning-specific 5mm wetsuits and socks, paddleboards and other essential equipment are provided, allowing adventurers to focus on enjoying the surroundings and challenges.

After completing the descent, the group returns to the secluded beach for a snack and some time floating on the paddleboards before making their way back to the cars. Participants should bring sturdy closed-toe footwear, lunch, a drink, swimwear or underwear for beneath the wetsuit, and a towel, along with a spare pair of underwear. As this is a physically demanding experience, a good level of fitness is required.
