Discover one of the worlds most famous archaeological sites on a full day journey from Holbox Island to Chichen Itza, with time to explore the ancient Mayan ruins, swim in the beautiful Dzitnup cenote, and visit the colonial city of Valladolid. The experience lasts approximately 10 to 12 hours and combines history, architecture, nature, and culture in one extended excursion. Chichen Itza dates back approximately 1553 years and is one of the best known Mayan archaeological sites in the region. The name comes from the Mayan language, with Chi meaning mouth, Chen meaning well, and Itza referring to the tribe that inhabited the area. The archaeological site is divided into three main areas, including the Toltec style northern group, the central group from the early period, and the area known as old Chichen. During the guided portion, spend two hours exploring the archaeological site and learning about its remarkable structures.

Among the sites to discover are the famous Kukulkan Pyramid, Temple of Warriors, ball game area, Nuns, and Snail, along with the Sacred Cenote. The Sacred Cenote is a large open cenote where archaeological discoveries have included ceramics, cloth, gold, jade, and skeletons. Following the guided tour, you will have approximately one hour to explore the archaeological area independently and take in its historic surroundings at your own pace.

The journey also continues to Dzitnup cenote, a beautiful cavern surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites with crystal clear water. Guests who wish to cool off can swim in the cenote, with admission listed at 59 pesos per person. The final stop is Valladolid, where you will enjoy a brief tour around the square of this colonial city and see its architectural features before continuing your journey. Tickets to the ruins, food, and a guide at the archaeological site are not included.
