Hobart Night Cruise and Aurora Experience

Set out on a three hour evening adventure from Hobart and enjoy a unique night cruise designed to take you away from the city lights and into a sheltered area of the ocean. The experience combines coastal cruising, local food, stories, and the opportunity to look across the night sky while also searching the water for marine creatures. Departing from 28 Morrison Street in Hobart, the journey offers a different way to experience the surrounding waters after dark.

The evening begins with bus collection for a short 20 kilometre journey to Margate Marina, where you will meet Cuttlefish before boarding the vessel. Once onboard, enjoy a warm apple gin cider before receiving a safety briefing and an overview of the nights plans, including information about the weather. The cruise then continues across the water, with an abalone presentation by a diver offering a closer look at local marine life and seafood.

The vessel will later moor at a sheltered location where you can enjoy soup while listening to stories before continuing the cruise toward Hobart. Along the way, the evening meal includes scallop pie, oysters, and apple cake, creating a warm and enjoyable setting during the cooler months. A welcome drink is provided, while additional beverages can be purchased from the onboard bar during the experience.

The night sky is an important part of the experience, with the crew hoping for a view of the aurora when conditions allow. Aurora sightings are not guaranteed and can be elusive, while they are not usually visible to the naked eye, so guests are encouraged to have their phone or camera prepared with suitable settings. This experience requires some mobility, as both the bus and boat require guests to step up, while access to the top deck involves steep stairs. Guests should dress warmly and advise the operator of dietary requirements at least 24 hours before the tour.
