Glacier Canoe Paddle And Hike Explores The Wild Beauty Of Juneau

Adventure seekers can experience the remarkable landscapes surrounding Juneau on a five and a half hour Glacier Canoe Paddle and Hike. The journey begins with a guided walk through Tongass National Forest, the world’s largest temperate rainforest, where towering Sitka spruce and hemlock trees create an immersive wilderness setting before the route reaches the canoe launch at Mendenhall Lake.

From the lake, participants paddle spacious canoes toward the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier while taking in views of Nugget Falls and Arctic tern nesting areas. An experienced guide provides paddle instruction and safety guidance before the group sets out, while the changing landscape and freshly calved icebergs offer memorable sights along the journey.

After reaching the beach, the adventure continues with a hike across rocky terrain toward the glacier’s edge. Guides share insights into the glacier’s history, formation and ongoing retreat as participants explore the surrounding bedrock and observe remarkable ice features. The tour does not include walking directly on the glacier, but provides an intimate perspective from its surrounding landscape.

Roundtrip transportation from downtown Juneau, paddling equipment, rain gear, safety equipment, permits, a hearty snack pack and a souvenir water bottle are included.
