Day Trip to Ohrid and Saint Naum from Tirana

The journey begins with a visit to Elbasan Castle, a historic fortress that offers a glimpse into Albania’s past through its ancient walls and surrounding neighborhood where modern life coexists with traditional architecture. This fusion of old and new sets the tone for the day as we continue toward the UNESCO-listed old town of Ohrid in North Macedonia. Once in Ohrid, the exploration starts at the impressive Fortress of Samuel, which offers panoramic views of the city and lake. From there, the tour moves through the historic Plaoshnik complex—an important site of early Slavic literacy and spiritual development—before visiting the elegant Church of Saint Sofia and the beautifully perched Church of St. John the Baptist, each showcasing stunning frescoes and rich religious heritage. Ohrid’s timeless charm lies in its cobbled streets, lakeside serenity, and layers of cultural significance.

The route then winds through the scenic Galichica National Park, where mountain views and untouched nature offer a refreshing contrast to the historical sites.
