Climbers ready to progress beyond top rope can develop their outdoor lead climbing skills through this one day course. Designed for participants aged sixteen and above, the seven hour clinic provides a structured introduction to sport lead climbing for those already comfortable climbing in a gym or on outdoor top rope routes.
The course covers essential techniques and systems used when clipping bolts on single pitch sport routes. Participants learn proper clipping, lead belaying, stick clipping and anchor cleaning, while also developing the decision making skills needed to manage risk during a lead climb.
Throughout the day, instructors provide close coaching and hands on practice, helping participants improve movement, efficiency and confidence while climbing above their last clip. The group uses well bolted areas and carefully selected routes around North Conway that support learning and gradual progression.
Check in and gear fitting take place at Ledge Brewing Company at eight in the morning before departing for the climbing areas. Participants should be prepared for steep, rocky and sometimes slippery approaches. The course provides a strong foundation for beginning sport lead climbing, although completing a lead climb during the session is not guaranteed.
