Climbers and outdoor enthusiasts can strengthen their emergency response skills through a two day Wilderness First Aid course designed for participants aged sixteen and above. Offered in partnership with SOLO, the program focuses on preparing people to respond confidently when medical help is not immediately available in remote climbing and backcountry environments.
The course introduces essential skills for assessing patients, managing injuries and making informed decisions in the field. Participants explore common climbing injuries, environmental emergencies and the circumstances that may require evacuation, helping them understand how to respond effectively when unexpected situations arise.
Practical learning is at the heart of the experience, with hands on exercises and realistic scenarios designed to build confidence. Participants have opportunities to practice their skills in situations that reflect the challenges they could encounter while climbing or exploring remote outdoor areas.
The course is held at IME, with some exercises taking place outdoors at nearby parks. Check in is at Ledge Brewing Company at eight in the morning. Participants should be prepared for walking across steep, rocky and sometimes slippery terrain during outdoor activities and should inform organizers in advance about any accessibility accommodations they may require.
