The three-day East-West Traverse offers a demanding journey from Exmouth Gulf across the rugged Cape Range to the crystal-clear waters of the Ningaloo Coast. Day one covers 14 kilometres, beginning with an early pickup from Exmouth and a gear-fitting session before the trek starts on the eastern foothills. Gradually ascending through impressive canyon systems, hikers enjoy sweeping views across Exmouth Gulf before reaching a remote camp in the heart of Cape Range for sunset and a night beneath the stars.
Day two covers 15 kilometres as the route continues west beside Mandu Mandu Gorge. Ancient wave-cut terraces lead down toward pristine beaches and the refreshing waters of Ningaloo Lagoon. After swimming and enjoying panoramic reef views, settle into a deserted beach camp for a memorable evening beside the ocean.
The final eight-kilometre journey follows pristine beaches and coastal dunes toward Turquoise Bay, with opportunities to swim and snorkel among Ningaloo Reef’s abundant marine life. Turtles, rays, dolphins, dugongs and seasonal humpback whales may be spotted along the way. This is a demanding trek requiring strong fitness, agility and stamina, with packs up to 17 kilograms and daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C.
