Bronze Chapter Rescues Bellingham
The Bronze Chapter Rescues and Recoveries course is designed for paddlers who want to improve their kayak safety and rescue skills. The three hour session is suitable for participants aged 16 and above and focuses on building confidence and self reliance during kayaking emergencies.
Training takes place on and in the water, beginning with wet exit practice in shallow water. Participants learn how to safely leave a capsized kayak before progressing to paddle float self rescue, cowboy self rescue, and assisted T Rescue techniques.
The course also covers bracing and edging techniques that help paddlers improve stability and understand the limits of their kayak. These practical skills can help participants respond more effectively when they or another paddler encounter difficulties on the water.
Participants must have completed Essentials of Sea Kayaking or have equivalent experience. Required equipment and gear are available for the session, although participants may bring their own wetsuit. Those wishing to use their own kayak should contact the organizer beforehand. A minimum of three participants is required for the program to operate.
