Junior Dinghy Sailing Camp Bellingham
Junior Dinghy Sailing Camps introduce children ages 8 to 12 to sailing through hands on instruction and practical water activities. The program includes five seven hour sessions for a total of 35 hours. Children learn sailing fundamentals while developing teamwork communication confidence and boat handling skills.
Young sailors learn aboard the RS Quest a multi handed boat that encourages teamwork and clear communication. Lessons cover rigging sailing theory hand exchange tacking jibing capsize recovery docking and person overboard drills. Beginner and returning sailors can participate with instruction adjusted to their experience level.
The beginner program helps new sailors develop the skills needed to rig and sail a Quest independently in light winds. The intermediate program builds on previous youth sailing experience and strengthens steering sail trimming and capsize recovery skills. Students interested in independent boat rentals must pass a skills test demonstrating the required abilities.
Each program is led by a US Sailing certified instructor and can be repeated for continued development. No previous experience is required for the beginner program. When weather conditions prevent sailing campers may participate in paddling or land based activities. Cancellations more than three weeks ahead receive a full refund while cancellations one to three weeks ahead receive a 50 percent refund. Cancellations less than one week before the camp receive no refund.
