Homer Halibut Hunters takes anglers on a thrilling 6–8-hour journey into the waters bordering the Gulf of Alaska, where spectacular scenery meets some of Alaska’s most exciting fishing. The adventure targets powerful halibut alongside a variety of rockfish, including yelloweye, tiger, china, grey, copper, and other prized species.

Rockfish provide fast-paced action, with more than 30 species found in Alaska’s waters. Pelagic rockfish such as black, dark, and dusky varieties often travel in schools, creating exciting moments when several anglers hook fish at the same time. The light tackle makes every strike more energetic, while many rockfish are also excellent for the table.

Fishing techniques change with the conditions to maximize the action. During stronger currents, the crew targets rockfish while drifting and jigging over productive waters. When the current slows, the boat moves to new locations, anchors, and chums the water to target halibut along the bottom. Comfortable, fast boats and experienced USCG-licensed captains help make the most of every fishing hour.

Guests should bring a valid Alaska sport fishing license, with a king salmon stamp if salmon fishing is included. Warm layered clothing, waterproof outerwear, hats, gloves, food, snacks, and water are recommended for a comfortable day offshore. Meeting times vary by season, and guests should follow current fishing regulations and arrive prepared for changing Alaska weather.
