Escape the iconic blue alleys of Chefchaouen and venture into the heart of the Rif Mountains on this invigorating two-day trek to Akchour. Your adventure begins with a 7-hour hike from Chefchaouen to the remote village of Azilane, traversing the scenic upper valley of Tissouka. Along the way, you’ll pass through dense groves of cedar, juniper, and endemic fir trees while soaking in sweeping views of the Bouhachem Natural Park and its surrounding rural settlements. After a well-deserved picnic break mid-journey, the trail descends into the quiet village of Afeska before arriving in Azilane, where a warm welcome awaits with traditional tea infused with local medicinal herbs. The night will be spent in a charming rural gîte, offering an authentic taste of Berber hospitality.
Day two continues the adventure with a forested trail that hugs the base of Jbel Abdoun, leading you through towering cedar and pine landscapes. This region is home to captivating rock formations and, if you’re lucky, native Barbary macaques. The trail winds toward the natural wonder known as the Bridge of God (God’s Bridge), a dramatic limestone arch spanning a lush gorge—perfect for photos and quiet reflection. Your journey concludes with a private transfer back to Chefchaouen, leaving you with memories of Morocco's untouched mountain beauty and a deeper connection to its natural heart.

Wonderful hike! You can take a shared taxi or haggle for a cheaper private taxi to get here. We agreed on one way 150 dh and hitchhiked back to chef. The hike is about 7.5 miles to only the waterfall. The god bridge is an additional two miles. The hike was fun- some technical pieces climbing some cinder blocks to cross rivers and many different ecosystems. The waterfall was dry, which means you can climb inside!

Beautiful spot. Quite touristy to start with, popular with locals and tourists alike. But further up towards the waterfall or Gods bridge tracks the crowd thins out quite a bit. These are fairly easy tracks with stunning views of the stream, valley, mountains and nature in general around with many tagine and tea restaurant on the way and even more mini falls and pools to dip into for a break. And the "final" waterfall is simply stunning and swim in the pool above or under is refreshing. Push through the people and police to the further parking lot and then just follow the trail through the valley. We did the waterfalls just under an hour one way with small kids in tow. Brilliant half a day family trip. If you want a proper hike for a full day or more there is plenty more to explore though. Gods bridge and beyond in the national park. For that you may want to hire a local guide, some were available at the parking lot. Or at least ensure you are well prepped as the trails are of course unmarked and there is no signal in the valleys.

Had a nice day here and everyone was having a good time, swimming and families gathering. *Warning* If you are driving there, the roads are probably some of the worst I have driven in Morocco. Very narrow, with switch-back tight corners and Taxi drivers and some local drivers, desperate to overtake.... they drive/overtake as if their life depends upon getting one car ahead. It's actually sad to see such arrogance and disregard for others safety. Drivers will cut every left hand bend, so they are taking the shortest route around the corners, meaning they appear 20% on your side of the road, leaving you with no where to go, except the pot holes to the right side of the road! Just know to expect bad driving and ensure you drive defensively, this I found the safest option. The drivers behind are going to overtake, I'm convinced they simply cannot resist the addrenaline rush with death!!! If you're going by taxi.... honestly, I would NEVER put my family into a Morrocan taxi for a journey such as this. (you must first observe the disgusting driving, to comprehend my observations) I am really surprised to not see more accidents than we did. (some if the head-on crashes we did see were brutal and completely avoidable, if only the drivers were better educated). Parking at the Akchour falls was 20 MAD, get there early as the carpark gets very busy. we went on a Monday in August. Lots of food vendors and places to buy drinks along the way. Its at least 2.5 hours to the main waterfall, but the are lots of smaller falls and pools to enjoy. Take lots of water and replenish along the way.

We hiked up to the last big pool (around 2h20) and it was totally worth it. The trail is surrounded by stunning nature, amazing vibes, and beautiful waterfalls all along the way. It does take effort to get up there, so it’s not for everyone, but if you can make it, you won’t regret it. We also stopped at the “little waterfall” on the way back and had the most delicious tagine, super tasty, great service, and really fair prices. Honestly, the whole experience was just amazing.

Absolutely beautiful. Make sure to wear something comfortable that's NOT slippy and make sure you try the orange juice that they sell there, it couldn't get any fresher. (15DH)
