Brown bears (Ursus arctos) are among the most adaptable and widely distributed carnivores on Earth, thriving in diverse habitats across Russia, India, China, North America, Scandinavia, and the Carpathians. Romania, in particular, is home to approximately 5,500 brown bears, the largest population in Europe outside Russia. These majestic animals can reach impressive sizes, with males weighing up to 350 kg and females around 200 kg. Known for their sharp hearing and extraordinary sense of smell, brown bears can live up to 30 years in the wild. Their elusive behavior and powerful presence make sightings a thrilling and humbling experience.
Join us for a rare chance to observe these incredible creatures in their natural environment. Departing from Brașov before sunset, we’ll journey approximately 40 minutes by car or minivan into the Carpathian Mountains. Accompanied by a professional forest ranger, we’ll walk to a specially constructed hide, carefully positioned for optimal wildlife viewing. Once inside, we’ll wait in silence, hoping to glimpse brown bears—perhaps young cubs, dominant males, or nurturing mothers—emerging from the trees. You may also spot other wildlife like deer or wild boar. While sightings are likely, they cannot be guaranteed, as these animals roam freely in their natural habitat.
