Brown bears (Ursus arctos) remain one of the most iconic and widely distributed large carnivores in the world, found across regions including Russia, North America, Scandinavia, and parts of Asia. In Europe, Romania stands out as a key stronghold for the species, with an estimated population of around 5,500 individuals—making it the largest brown bear population on the continent outside Russia. Known for their strength, intelligence, and highly developed senses, these animals are capable of detecting scents from remarkable distances and can live up to three decades in the wild.

In the forests surrounding Brașov, visitors are offered a rare opportunity to observe these elusive animals in their natural Carpathian habitat. The experience begins with a late-afternoon departure from the city, followed by a short journey of approximately 40 minutes into the surrounding mountain wilderness. As daylight fades, the environment becomes increasingly active for wildlife, setting the stage for a quiet and immersive observation session.

Accompanied by a professional forest ranger, participants walk to a specially constructed viewing hide designed to minimize disturbance to the surrounding ecosystem. From this concealed vantage point, guests wait in silence as the forest naturally comes alive. Depending on conditions, sightings may include brown bears—ranging from solitary males to females with cubs—as well as other native wildlife such as deer and wild boar.
