This e-mountain bike tour in Víknaslóðir follows a remote F-road deep into Afrétt, a highland area where sheep roam freely and reindeer occasionally wander through the open landscape. The route quickly leaves modern infrastructure behind, offering a true off-grid experience of silence and vast natural space. Riders travel through a striking mosaic of colors as the trail winds across valleys carved from ancient rhyolite, reminiscent of the landscapes found in Landmannalaugar. Early in the journey, a short detour leads to the vividly colored slopes of Hvítserkur, one of the region’s oldest and most distinctive geological formations.
As the ride continues, the terrain descends through valleys lined with countless waterfalls that appear as silver threads across the rock. The route eventually opens onto a wide black sand beach scattered with colorful rhyolite stones, creating a surreal contrast of textures and colors. The final climb takes riders up to around 500 meters above sea level, where—weather permitting—expansive panoramic views unfold over the Víknaslóðir wilderness, Borgarfjörður Eystri, surrounding mountains, valleys, and the distant sea. It is a dramatic and unforgettable finish to a deeply remote Icelandic adventure.
