Ghost Ranch Workshop Explores Nature, Reciprocity, and Community

Ghost Ranch welcomes guests to a special full-day educational workshop led by acclaimed author, scientist, and ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer, focusing on themes of nature, reciprocity, gratitude, and community. The immersive experience invites participants to explore how lessons from the natural world can inspire more meaningful relationships between people, the environment, and shared communities.

Robin Wall Kimmerer is a mother, scientist, decorated professor, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. She is the author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants, which has received wide acclaim for blending Indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge, and ecological understanding. Her first book, Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses, was awarded the John Burroughs Medal for outstanding nature writing, and her work has also appeared in Orion, Whole Terrain, and numerous scientific journals. Her newest book, The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World, published in November 2024, explores how gratitude, reciprocity, and community can shape a more connected way of living through lessons from the natural world.

The workshop begins with a morning session inspired by The Serviceberry, where participants explore the principles of abundance, generosity, and mutual support found in nature. The afternoon session continues with conversations about creating a world where people feel a deeper sense of belonging to one another and the Earth, combining ecological knowledge, cultural perspectives, and thoughtful reflection.

The day concludes with an evening book signing and final reception, offering guests a chance to connect, share ideas, and continue conversations in a welcoming atmosphere. With lunch and dinner included at the Ghost Ranch Dining Hall, this unique experience provides an opportunity to learn from Robin Wall Kimmerer while discovering new perspectives on nature, community, and the interconnected world around us.
