HIKE BETWEEN TWO FJORDS - hiking

The tour begins with a scenic hike from the Westfjords Adventures office in Patreksfjordur to Talknafjorour, following an old historical route that connects the two fjords. Along the way, participants walk through Litlidalur and pass Lambeyrarháls, where the local guide shares stories of Patreksfjörður and Tálknafjörður’s rich maritime history, including the presence of English, French, German, and Dutch sailors, merchants, and naval mariners in early times. Continuing to Suðureyri, travelers learn about the Norwegian whaling station established around 1900 and explore a famous ground depression believed to be a fairy settlement where visitors are said to dream about their future if they rest there. The hike also offers excellent opportunities to observe local birdlife and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding fjords and mountains.

The hike covers approximately seven kilometers over five hours with an elevation gain of 330 meters and is considered challenging yet suitable for those in good health. The tour starts at nine in the morning, and at the end of the hike, participants are transported by minivan back to Patreksfjörður. Dress in warm clothing suitable for Icelandic weather, wear sturdy hiking boots, and bring a backpack and water bottle to stay comfortable and hydrated.
