Please note that the total time allowed inside Poás Volcano National Park is limited to 40 minutes, in accordance with current park regulations. Visitors will have approximately 10 minutes to walk from the entrance to the crater viewpoint, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the impressive active volcano. Once at the lookout point, you’ll have 20 minutes to take in the dramatic landscape, observe the steaming crater, and capture memorable photos. This regulated schedule helps preserve the delicate environment and ensures safety due to the volcano’s activity levels.
It’s important to understand that access to Botos Lagoon is currently not permitted, as this area remains closed to visitors. Additionally, in the event of fog or poor visibility, there will be no extra waiting time allowed at the viewpoint—unlike in the past when visitors could remain longer in hopes of clearer skies. Therefore, we recommend arriving prepared to make the most of the time at the crater lookout, regardless of weather conditions.
