Take a deep dive—literally—into one of Romania’s most extraordinary natural wonders with a visit to the Slănic Prahova Salt Mine. Located in an all-season spa town renowned for its mineral-rich waters, the mine itself lies 208 meters underground and is one of the largest salt mines in Europe. As you descend, you'll be welcomed by a unique microclimate with constant temperatures of 12°C, 50% humidity, and sodium-rich air, known for its therapeutic effects on respiratory conditions. Walk at your own pace through the vast underground chambers, where the stillness and purity of the air create a peaceful, almost sacred environment. The impressive mine hall reaches 70 meters in height and wraps around a massive central pillar, adorned with basso-rilievo sculptures of key Romanian historical figures—creating a surreal, cathedral-like ambiance.
The visit is not only about tranquility and health but also offers a variety of engaging attractions. Inside the salt mine, you’ll discover a mini museum of mining history, a sports field, and even a children's playground. The space is used for athletic events, training sessions, health retreats, and sometimes even as a dramatic backdrop for film productions. This unique underground world is made easily accessible with comfortable round-trip transportation from Bucharest, accompanied by a professional English-speaking chauffeur. Whether you're seeking a health benefit, a family-friendly day trip, or a truly memorable cultural experience, Slănic Prahova Salt Mine delivers a fascinating glimpse into Romania’s natural and historical treasures.

Visiting from the UK. We tried buying our 9 tickets online originally, and it seemed to go through but then later received a notification that the payment was rejected. We called and they send it would probably work if we tried in person. We went to the ticket stall at the mine, using a different card from someone else in our group. The woman at the ticket stall was on the phone for ages now serving anyone. When we finally got to the front we paid for our tickets and it seemed to have gone through again. It then got declined again, same as when we tried buying them online with the other card. The woman asked if she could see the card. She then proceeds to pull out a massive pair of scissors and says she is going to cut the card in half. The owner of the card was very distressed, as this is his only card he has with him. He then asked to see the manager and demanded his card back, however there was no manager available. In the end we were unable to visit the mines and wasted time coming here, all due to shocking customer service.

First time inside a 2000 chamber mine deep underground amazing experience!

An interesting place for visiting, totally one of a kind. You can choose guided tours in many languages. Everything is really well organized, there is a huge amount of parking spots around which is helpful cause it's located outside of Krakow.

Great tour, shame our English speaking tour guide had a strong foreign accent and pronounced many words incorrectly, therefore, it was very difficult to understand her. I feel it is important that she needs to learn how to correctly enunciate the English language so the paying guests are able to understand. (Many English speaking people thought the same as me). Otherwise, it was a beautiful place to visit.

Totally surprised by the salt mine tour, was really interesting. Only went because it was part of the Auschwitz tour that we booked but so delighted that we got to experience the salt mines.
