Whales & Puffins

Discover the unique opportunity to enjoy both whale watching and puffin watching right from the heart of Reykjavík. Just a short boat ride from the Old Harbour takes you to the nearby puffin islands, where you can observe these charming birds up close. The tour takes place aboard the traditional oak boat Skúlaskeið (“Old Skúli”), specially designed with a shallow draught to get close to the puffins’ nesting sites. Our expert guides will share fascinating facts about Reykjavík’s rich birdlife, making this an engaging and educational experience for nature lovers of all ages.

For the whale watching portion, choose between two types of boats—Classic and Express. The Classic boat is one of Iceland’s largest whale watching vessels, focusing on a comfortable and educational experience, while the Express catamaran offers a quicker cruise to and from the whale watching area, giving you more time on land. Both boats feature indoor and outdoor seating, restrooms, a cafeteria, and thermal overalls (children’s sizes available). Common sightings in Faxaflói Bay include humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. These are two separate tours, so you can enjoy them on different days at your convenience.
