Experience an Enchanting Puffin Watching Adventure Near the Coastal Waters of Reykjavík City

Embark on a delightful maritime journey from the historic Reykjavík Old Harbour to witness the vibrant puffin colonies nesting on nearby islands. With over two decades of expertise, these specialized tours utilize the custom-built vessel Old Skuli to navigate the shallow coastal waters. The boat's unique design allows for a close approach to the rocky shores of Akurey, providing passengers with an unparalleled opportunity to observe these charming birds in their natural nesting habitats.

The journey to the islands takes approximately fifteen minutes, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Reykjavík coastline along the way. As the boat approaches the nesting grounds, the engines are silenced to ensure a peaceful environment for both the wildlife and the observers. Expert guides provide fascinating insights into the behavior of the puffins and the ecological importance of the surrounding islands, sharing fun stories that bring the local birdlife to life for every passenger.

These islands are characterized by their small hills and rocky slopes, which serve as the perfect sanctuary for thousands of nesting puffins during the summer season. The tour is designed to be accessible and educational, making it an ideal choice for families and photography enthusiasts alike. Passengers are encouraged to bring their cameras to capture the stunning scenery and the active birdlife that thrives in this protected coastal area just off the mainland.

This excursion is a fantastic way to connect with Icelandic nature without venturing far from the city. The combination of expert guidance, comfortable boat travel, and the chance to see puffins up close makes this a must-do activity for any visitor. Whether you are a seasoned birdwatcher or simply looking for a memorable outdoor experience, the Puffin Express offers a unique perspective on the rich biodiversity that defines the coastal waters of Iceland.

I had mistakenly left a negative review for this company after getting confused with another Belfast hop-on-hop-off bus tour company. The other company had refused my elderly parents an exchange after they booked the incorrect date and lost out on 50 EUR. Rather than just letting me know this, not only did the helpful customer care team guide me to the correct company, they also kindly offered my parents complimentary tickets as a gesture of good will, even though they had absolutely nothing to do with the error. Thank you for your patience and help - my parents are so looking forward to their trip!

Mrs. A & I always believe that the best way to get a somewhat comprehensive view of a city in a short stay is to do the Hop on Hop off tours & this did not disappoint - SPA007

We did this tour today. Try to get into Catherine's bus. She drives and provides commentary as the bus goes from stop to stop. She's knowledgeable and extremely engaging with lots of personal stories and humour thrown in as well. The whole route lasts for 90 mins and you see the main attractions, including murals and the Peace Gates. Obviously, you can hop on and hop off at any of the stops if you don't want to do the whole tour, but what we did first was to go around the entire route then changed buses at the end and made our way around to the places we wanted to spend time at.
