Large winery with several varieties of reds, whites and moscatels. We didn’t have a reservation but arrived just in time for the English-version of the museum tour. Interesting tour of the barrel storage facility. The “museum” part after that consisted of several artists and some African art and I could have done without most of that. They were very generous with the wine tasting and even opened 3 extra bottles of wines for me afterwards to taste. Very nice staff. Worth a stop and next time I want to try the palace and gardens tour.

This was the only winery I shopped at on the trip. They are the only one in the region that produces a fine wine caliber and does a proper tasting. If you want actual wine and a proper experience, this is your place. The statues and gardens are nice too.

Joao(also goes by John) was the best tour guide we could have asked for. If I could give 10 stars I absolutely would. He was just as enthusiastic about the history of the palace, even down to how the tiles were made and how they are made now, as he was about the wine. He knew a lot about the art sections as well. He answered our estimated 100 questions with ease and precision. I am new to wine and thought I’d maybe like 1 out of the 3 tastings. I ended up loving the next one more than I did the last. He did a fabulous job explaining what the differences were to someone who knows close to nothing about wine. My parents being wine enthusiast were impressed with his knowledge as well and engaged in many of topics. The tour offered way more than expected mostly due to Joao(I hope I’m spelling it correctly) so very much worth the price. Ended up leaving with multiple bottles.

We had an amazing wine tasting experience with our friends, guided by Beatriz. She was absolutely fantastic and incredibly charismatic, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. Her knowledge and passion for the wines really shone through, adding a special touch to our time at Bacalhôa.

MUST SEE EVENT if your within a few hours away! Top shelf wines but the amazing part is the priceless art collection from 3 outstanding artists. Only $6.00 euros per person with private tour guide. Beautiful zen gardens with rich history and pride of ownership. Wish we could ship cases of wine back stateside. Our tour guides very knowledgeable and English speaking. Everyone spoke good English. Thank you for an outstanding tour.
