This combo tour offers the ultimate way to experience Iceland’s natural beauty, combining a thrilling whale watching adventure with a magical Northern Lights cruise—all in one unforgettable day. Begin with a 3-hour whale watching tour departing from Reykjavík’s Old Harbour at 09:00, 13:00, or 17:00 (based on seasonal availability). Guided by a professional marine biologist or naturalist, you'll learn about the diverse marine life of Faxaflói Bay. Sightings may include humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises, along with a wide variety of seabirds. The snow-capped mountains and low winter sun provide a dramatic backdrop, making this wildlife encounter even more spectacular.
After the whale watching, enjoy some free time to explore Reykjavík’s charming city center and have dinner at a local restaurant. In the evening, return to the harbor to board your second boat tour—a Northern Lights Cruise departing at either 21:00 or 22:00 depending on the season. This 2-hour sailing takes you away from the city lights for optimal aurora viewing conditions in the peaceful waters of southern Faxaflói Bay. Surrounded by stars and sea, you’ll watch the sky for a glimpse of the elusive auroras in one of the most serene settings imaginable. The tour is operated based on weather conditions to give you the best possible chance of witnessing the Northern Lights.

Whale Watching Experience – Reykjavík Waters Booked this trip through Viator and reached about 10 minutes before the scheduled departure. Although the host recommends arriving 30 minutes early, that’s not really necessary — arriving a bit before the time is perfectly fine. The onward journey takes around 1 hour 45 minutes, and the return about 1 hour 15 minutes. Our guide, Joe, made the experience lively with his witty and informative commentary, sharing fascinating insights about whales and Icelandic marine life. His humor really added charm to the trip! Spotting whales in their natural habitat was truly a special moment. However, the return journey can feel a little monotonous, especially after the excitement of whale sightings. Still, the views of the open ocean and Reykjavík’s coastline make it worthwhile. Overall, a well-organized and memorable experience for nature and wildlife enthusiasts visiting Reykjavík.

Our guide Celine was fantastic! She spoke really good English and was good at spotting activity. She was very knowledgeable. I liked that, as a representative from the company, took pictures and that they were shared for free.

Oh my goodness, went in the whale watching tour this morning and it blew my expectations away. I was fully prepared to not see a thing, such is the way of the natural world sometimes, but thought a boat trip to see seabirds would make me happy enough. Well, it was absolutely incredible. Our guide for the morning was knowledgable, funny and made the tour so much more than just an average tour and with his knowledge and help the guests go so many sightings of humpback whales. It was just incredible and to be honest has made my whole year and my trip to Iceland even more magical. I would recommend this to everyone - but just be aware that this isn’t a zoo, they’re not performing animals and sometimes you can go on these expeditions and not see a thing. Today was just magical though.

Didn't see any whales but had an amazing trip anyway. The staff were friendly and the tour guide was funny too. The boat was calm and didn't feel too busy despite being almost full. Hope to see some whales when we next visit

The tour was brilliant and our guide was interesting and good humoured, which added to the enjoyment of the trips. He were also knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, so you couldn't fail but get involved in the tour. We were lucky enough to see 2 X humpback whales of the WW tour 18.11.22. Complimentary sea sickness tablets are available at the ticket office and sea suits are available on board the boat. If deck is too cold, there is ample warm seating inside with a café/toilets. The guide takes photos and publish them for free on the company websites, which is a brilliant plus. The links are on the website and are easy to access and download from. Our whale watching guide was a German marine biologist and kept us well informed and educated throughout. I'd book with this company every time I visit Iceland as I cannot fault a single part of the services we purchased. Thank you to the whole team.
