This peaceful nature walk begins at Cruzinha, home of the A Rocha field study centre, and gently follows a countryside track toward the beautiful Ria de Alvor marsh. The path passes through quiet rural landscapes where traditional fields are used for grazing and where old orchards still grow among open farmland. These mixed habitats create ideal conditions for observing a variety of birds and other wildlife. Along the way it is common to spot Cattle Egrets moving through the pastures, Azure winged Magpies calling from trees, and Woodchat Shrikes perched on shrubs scanning the ground for insects. During spring the colorful Bee Eater often appears gliding above the fields, while the Little Owl may be seen resting quietly on old walls or posts.
As the walk approaches the marsh the scenery opens to wide coastal wetlands where birds gather around the tidal flats. Stonechats and Crested Larks often sit on fences or low vegetation, offering wonderful observation opportunities. When the tide is low the exposed mudflats attract many feeding waders while local people search the sand for clams and cockles, adding a glimpse of traditional coastal life to the landscape. In winter the elegant Caspian Tern may appear among the gulls, and patient observers might notice a Black winged Kite hovering silently while hunting in the early morning light. During quiet winter evenings a Short eared Owl sometimes glides over the marsh before dusk. After enjoying the wetlands and birdlife, the walk returns peacefully to Cruzinha along the same scenic path.
