Tanker Train Days

Step back in time and experience the unique sights and sounds of a tanker train running alongside a steam-hauled passenger train at Lydney Junction. This special railway event allows enthusiasts and visitors to witness historic rolling stock in action while enjoying the scenic beauty of the heritage railway. Departures take place from Lydney Junction Station, with optional travel from Norchard Station on the first two departures. Each day offers the chance to view, photograph, and appreciate the operations of these remarkable trains, run in partnership with the National Wagon Preservation Group. Spaces on the brake van are limited, so advance booking is recommended for those wishing to travel on board.

This immersive experience combines the thrill of live steam operations with the opportunity to observe tanker trains in motion, giving a real sense of railway history. Guests aged twelve and above can ride the trains and enjoy the atmosphere of a heritage railway in full operation. While dogs are not permitted on board, all visitors are welcome to explore the platform, watch the trains in action, and capture the perfect photographs.
