Samson Wrecks Dive Tour Explores Pilbara’s Artificial Reef Network in Western Australia

A certified advanced diving experience at the Samson Wrecks offers an intensive underwater exploration of one of the region’s most notable dive environments. Located within the broader Dampier Archipelago, the site features a collection of sunken vessels that have evolved into thriving artificial reefs supporting a wide range of marine biodiversity.

The experience is designed for Advanced Open Water Divers and typically includes two deep dives reaching depths of up to 25 meters. These dives focus on submerged trawlers and barges now colonized by coral and marine life, including large reef species such as cod, groupers, and tawny nurse sharks. The wreck structures provide complex underwater terrain that attracts dense fish populations and reef ecosystems.

Between dives, participants return to the vessel for a surface interval, during which they can rest and take in views of the surrounding islands of the Dampier Archipelago. The region is known for its clear, warm waters and high marine biodiversity, with over 650 recorded fish species, as well as frequent sightings of turtles, dolphins, and rays.

Seasonally, from June to October, divers may also encounter migrating humpback whales in nearby waters, adding a rare marine wildlife dimension to the trip. The tour is operated in small groups to maintain safety and allow for more focused guidance, with all necessary equipment provided as needed. Weather conditions can affect scheduling due to the exposed nature of the region, making flexibility an important part of the experience.
