Step back in time to the dark era of World War II on this powerful 2-hour walking tour of Amsterdam, where you’ll explore the tragic yet inspiring story of Anne Frank and the city under Nazi occupation. Your expert guide will lead you through key historical locations while recounting personal stories of life in Amsterdam between 1940 and 1945, when the city was under German control. Learn how Anne Frank became a global symbol of resistance and hope, and how her father Otto Frank brought her famous diary to light.
Starting near Waterloo Square, the tour takes you past buildings still bearing the scars of war. You'll hear about life during the occupation, including pivotal events like the February Strike and the Hunger Winter. Visit the Jewish neighborhood, with stops at landmarks such as the Portuguese Synagogue, the Hollandsche Schouwburg, and the Jewish Council’s former headquarters. The tour concludes next to the Anne Frank House, giving deeper context to her story—note that entry is not included. This experience is ideal for those interested in European history and the enduring legacy of Amsterdam’s Jewish community.

I had a fantastic tour with Sebastiaan. I learned so many interesting things about Amsterdam and these dark times and I loved to hear so many stories about brave people who tried to save lives. I was the only participant that showed up but instead of cancelling he took me on a 2 hour private tour, which was amazing. I would highly recommend this tour. A perfect addition to a visit to the Anne Frank House.

We really enjoyed this tour, especially the stories about some of the people living through the second World War in Amsterdam. We all learned a lot including our teenage children, and the 2 hours flew by. Our tour guide Sebastiaan did a great job bringing the stories to life.

Nicole provided a fantastic history of the Franks' family time in Amsterdam.

Our guide was great, very informative and entertaining and brought all the stories to life!

Henk did a fantastic job. Lots of very interesting information. 100% recommend!!

It was very engaging but also appropriate to make people think

Our guide Carlos was excellent. He was so knowledgeable, so intelligent and also charming. He spoke English very well. Would highly recommend this tour.

We really enjoyed our walking tour with Alessio. He shared fascinating insights into Amsterdam’s history and the events leading up to the Nazi occupation, tying them to local landmarks and the Anne Frank story in a clear and engaging way. Highly recommend — thanks, Alessio! Grazie Mille

We did the Anne Frank Tour with Sebastiaan the day after taking the main Amsterdam Tour, also with him. Once again, Sebastiaan impressed us with his extensive knowledge of Amsterdam’s history — this time focusing on WWII and, more specifically, the story of Anne Frank and her family. It was a deeply moving and insightful walk, beautifully narrated with empathy and respect. Sebastiaan brought the history to life in a way that was both informative and profoundly touching. Highly recommended!

Sebestian is a very knowledgeable tour guide whom gave us deep history or this Anne Frank tour. Great background on the era and everything that's going on at her times. He also put in a me connection with the words we used in English and how those came along from from spoken Dutch language which totally opened my eyes (and ears)! 10/10 experience!
