This immersive full-day tour is ideal for history enthusiasts, taking you from Lisbon to the heart of Portugal’s Templar legacy in Tomar. After a comfortable drive, you'll arrive in this UNESCO World Heritage city, where history stretches from the Roman era, through the Moorish occupation, to the middle ages and into modern Portugal. The highlight is a visit to the Convento de Cristo, one of the largest monumental complexes in the world, built in 1160 by D. Gualdim Pais, Grand Master of the Order of the Temple. This former Templar stronghold is a masterpiece of architecture, blending Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. Notable features include the Templar “Charola” and the iconic Manueline “Janela do Capítulo,” rich in symbolism from the Age of Discovery.
You’ll also explore the lesser-known but equally fascinating Aqueduct of the Convent of Christ, a 16th-century engineering marvel built to supply the convent with water. Before returning to Lisbon, the journey continues to the enchanting Castelo de Almourol, dramatically perched on a small island in the Tagus River. Conquered in 1129 by Portugal’s first king, this striking medieval castle served as a key defensive stronghold and is deeply linked with the Order of the Templars. Surrounded by natural beauty and rich in legend, it offers a perfect finale to a day steeped in Portugal’s historic and architectural heritage.

Great people, fantastic place to work, superb colleagues in London and Edinburgh and Copenhagen too. A good buzz in the office, and very good office parties

They literally didn’t even pick us up! Called their number no answer couldn’t get through at all! Your was supposed to be leaving at 6:30 it’s 7:15 and other tour groups can’t even grab us

Wish I could give less than 1 star. Our Scotland whiskey vacation included distillery tours, accommodation, and transport. IWT booked 5 distillery tours and one night's accommodation. The first distillery tour was not booked, the second not paid, the third the wrong time, the fourth not booked, and the fifth was okay. The only nights accommodation was not booked and now we are struggling to find somewhere to stay. I can't see how this company remains in business

This company is either incompetent or a scam. They talk a good game and put together some nice looking itineraries but as soon as the check clears they ghost you. Communication becomes rarer and rarer until the day of your scheduled trip and then they go utterly silent. If you don't believe me, please check out their thread on TripAdvisor and please, don't give them your money.

A great tour with IWT. For my first time in Ireland, I received excellent advice. When I arrived, I had no surprises; I just had to enjoy my trip and especially the view, because with the tour they recommended, I was amazed! My only regret was not having enough time to see everything, but what's certain is that for my next trip, I can trust IWT with my eyes closed! Thank you again for this great trip to Ireland; I'm really delighted! (And a special thank you to Noémie.) Dorian
