Came up to this quaint cottage resort a few weeks ago with family and friends, and had a great time disconnecting from the world. You’ll have trouble getting a proper signal but you can enjoy a number of activities such as kayaking, hiking, stargazing, etc. without the distractions of everyday life. Highly recommend coming here! Staff and food at the resort restaurant were excellent as well :)
Our family has had the most wonderful stay at Mattawa in Cartier cabin. The property is gorgeous, feeling like you are on a backcountry canoe trip with all the amenities you need. We enjoyed a beautiful dinner at the lodge with very accommodating chefs making sure the vegetarians in our group had plenty to eat, enjoyed paddling on the lake every day with use of different boats, and felt right at home. Dave was excellent and helped us extend our stay for an extra night. We can’t wait to come back!
We stayed here for a Sunday to Friday “week”, so I can’t comment on what it’s like when it’s busy. We had a lovely week with our kids and their partners. No TV and weak phone data, so a nice unplugged experience. Enough data for email and music streaming, so you’re not completely cut off. The scenery is second to none. The river is good for swimming, and the kids used the kayaks a couple of times. Accommodations are rustic, but the rear deck was brand new, and we spent most of our time there. I can’t comment on the restaurant because we didn’t use it. We texted with Dave and he was very helpful and responsive. The thing that needs the most attention is the dock. It’s a bit scary in spots. Overall, the resort looks like it’s still recovering from COVID, but it’s worth a stay. Also, Mattawa is a really lovely community. Avoid the blueberry pie from the bakery, and try the poutine next to the ice cream place in town.
