After being picked up in Lisbon, you'll be transferred to Palmela, a region steeped in winemaking history and tradition. Your first stop is Filipe Palhoça Vinhos, a family-run winery founded in 1950 by Filipe Jorge Palhoça. What began as a small business has grown into a legacy passed down through generations, with a deep love for viticulture at its heart. Located in the Poceirão area, the estate lies in the heart of the Setúbal Peninsula wine-growing region. Today, the winery spans 112 hectares across 11 properties in Poceirão, Fernando Pó, and Marateca, and is renowned for its dedication to quality and tradition. Here, you’ll discover the winemaking process and sample wines that reflect the passion and history of this land.
Before continuing to the next winery, enjoy a stop for lunch at a cozy, family-run restaurant owned by a local fisherman and his family in Poceirão. This hidden gem offers a true taste of the region, with fresh fish and other traditional dishes sure to delight your palate. After this authentic gastronomic experience, your journey continues to Casa Ermelinda Freitas, another historic winery founded in 1920 by Leonilde Freitas. One of the rare Portuguese wineries to maintain continuous female leadership, it flourished under the guidance of Ermelinda Freitas and later her daughter, Leonor Freitas. The vineyard’s sandy soils, rich in water and cooled by the breezes from the Tejo and Sado Rivers, create ideal conditions for Castelão grapes, which make up 40% of their production. These unique conditions give the wines their smooth and elegant character, making Casa Ermelinda Freitas a standout in the region.

We discovered not only excellent wines here, but also truly customer-focused service. Even in a situation where the mistake was on our side, the team immediately stepped in to help find a solution and went out of their way to accommodate us. That shows they genuinely care about their customers, and are not just a business thinking of themselves. Both the wines and the experience are highly recommended.

We arrived in our campervan and were welcomed by a kind gentleman who showed us where to park and then went to get our welcome pack. The box had two bottles of wine and a small cheese. The toilets we were able to use were very clean and tidy and also water at hand for us. The pitch was level and next to the vine yards. No issues really

We had a stay at Fernão do Pó on 31st March. Nice location which was easy to find. We parked at the side of the Adega where we had access to water and the use of toilets. It’s a great location with easy walking around the vast vineyards that are in that area. Nice, helpful staff member who recommended wine and also a good walk for us to do.

We had a brilliant stopover with our campervan (rural tourism). Water and toilets are available if needed. Joao the proprietor was so friendly and made our stay very memorable. He really knows his wines and took the time to speak with us for which we are grateful as we learnt a lot. The wine is very good and reasonably priced!! There is a lovely bike ride/walk called the PR6 which starts from here. It goes through various vineyards and also by the side of cork trees its interesting. The area is authentic, its real Portugal and the experience was superb. Thank you and we will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Well, disappointed is the word. Five star reviews, tours of the winery, excellent service. Hmm......we booked and received a welcome pack. That was it. A chat with the owner / manager in the shop and the chance of an overnight stay on a gravel pitch next to the main road. We decided to drive on. Made to feel welcome....Not really.
