Magnificent Moon program

Set high above the Sonoran Desert, Kitt Peak National Observatory offers an inspiring evening devoted to the beauty of the Moon and the brilliance of the night sky. Home to a remarkable collection of optical and radio telescopes, this renowned research facility provides an unforgettable introduction to astronomy. Designed for a more personal and immersive atmosphere, the program maintains a small guest to staff ratio, allowing generous time at the telescopes and binocular stations. Evenings on the summit can feel much colder than surrounding areas, so warm layered clothing and sturdy closed toe shoes are essential. As an active scientific site, the observatory follows strict lighting controls to protect ongoing research, and guests depart together in a guided vehicle convoy for safety. The program involves walking and climbing stairs and is best suited for adults and older children. In case of unfavorable weather, an alternate astronomy experience may be offered.
