Buckskin Gulch & Wire Pass

Buckskin Gulch is one of the longest and deepest slot canyons in the world, stretching for miles while rarely widening beyond 20 feet. The canyon offers a unique hiking experience with cooler temperatures compared to the surrounding sun-drenched red rocks and occasional puddles to wade through. Hikers can expect a combination of sand, sandstone, flat terrain, shaded areas, some elevation changes, and a 15-foot drop that may require scrambling or using a ladder, though alternate routes are available. The hike can be physically challenging, with difficulty rated 4.5 out of 5, and distances varying depending on how far you choose to explore, from approximately 3 miles roundtrip to Wire Pass up to 6 miles within Buckskin Gulch itself. Pickup is available from local Kanab accommodations, or guests may meet at the Coral Cliffs Tours office if driving in for the day.

Participants are required to bring appropriate hiking gear including sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing suitable for cooler canyon temperatures, sun protection, and their own water. A lunch or snacks are also recommended, with a cooler provided for longer trips if needed. A small BLM land use pass of $6.50 per person is required for entry, which can be arranged and added to the tour cost.
