Choosing Douro Walks and meeting Silvia, Antonio and their family was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. They were so welcoming, friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They put together two amazing experiences with all transport provided to and from our accommodation. The first was the Farmhouse Cooking Course which was a great introduction to Portuguese food. With the guidance of Silvia, we helped prepare a traditional lunch consisting of food, wine, and port. The food was locally grown and produced, and the wine and port were produced by their family It was fabulous not only tasting this wonderful food, but also learning about the ingredients and their traditional methods of growing and making it. The second experience was the next day with a 15km hike through the hills, vineyard terraces, and olive groves, starting from Sabrosa, a village in the hills, to Pinhao. This was much more than just a hike; it was a fully immersive experience with Antonio leading the way and giving us insights and information about every aspect of the area. We were welcomed by the owner of a local restaurant in Provesende where we had a wonderful traditional lunch with local wine before continuing our hike to finish in Pinhao. These two experiences were exceptional. Antonio and Silvia were just the nicest people and went the extra mile to make us feel special. The Ervedosa hike is a special and unique way to experience the real Douro from some true locals in Antonio and Silvia who live it everyday and found a way to let us in to that life - even if only for a day. So much more than we could have expected - the scenery, the education about the valley and its evolution and the open look in to the life of a small vineyard operator.

Our experience with Douro Walks was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we met Antonio and his lovely wife Sylvia, we felt completely welcomed and cared for. They are not only deeply knowledgeable about the Douro Valley’s history, wine, and culture, but also incredibly warm and genuine people. Antonio’s passion for the region shines through in every story he tells, and Sylvia’s kindness and thoughtfulness made the day feel so special and personal. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, informed, and able to experience the Douro in the most authentic way. We learned so much and left feeling like we had spent the day with friends rather than guides. The combination of breathtaking scenery, fascinating insights, and their wonderful company made this one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal.
