Florida Boat Rental Rules Emphasize Safety, Insurance, and Clear Policies

Florida boating regulations require customers born on or after January 1, 1988 to complete a Boater Safety Course and carry a Boating Safety Education Identification Card issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. While mandatory for some operators, the safety course is also recommended for all renters to improve awareness and ensure safer navigation on the water.

All rental vessels are covered by comprehensive insurance that includes a deductible, along with towing assistance provided through SeaTow, which is included in the rental package. Customers are required to pay a refundable security deposit at pickup, which may be handled either in cash or as a temporary hold on a credit card for the duration of the rental period.

Standard rental pricing includes instruction, cleaning services, insurance coverage, and SeaTow membership, while fuel expenses remain the responsibility of the customer. Boats must be returned with a full fuel tank to avoid additional refueling charges and possible service fees. In cases of mechanical issues, operators will provide a replacement vessel when available or issue a partial refund if a substitute cannot be arranged.

Additional service terms include optional boat delivery to vacation homes within the Cape Coral area for an extra fee, as well as onboard or iPad-based navigation systems to assist with travel planning. Cancellation policies vary based on timing, offering full refunds for bookings canceled more than 60 days in advance or in the event of hurricanes and other unforeseen disruptions, while shorter-notice cancellations may result in partial or no refund depending on conditions.
