This exciting youth program is designed for teenagers who want to have fun while learning the foundations of whitewater rafting and river safety on the beautiful Trinity River. Each day begins with an engaging outdoor classroom session, followed by hands on learning on the river where students actively practice essential skills. Participants will learn how to rig and steer a raft, work together as a crew to maneuver through moving water, read the river, choose effective lines through rapids, catch and use eddies, and safely free a raft from obstacles. Training also includes flipping a raft upright, using hand signals for communication, handling rescue rope bags, practicing self rescue, assisting others in the water, delivering paddle talks, and building strong safety awareness. The focus is on skill development, teamwork, and confidence in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Most of the course takes place on the upper sections of the Trinity River between Big Flat and Cedar Flat, with an additional day on the lively Pigeon Point stretch. Camping is provided for the duration of the class, and students may camp with a parent or responsible adult. Lunch is served each training day, while families provide breakfast and dinner. Instructors transport students between camp and the river each day, and all necessary rafting equipment is included. Parents are welcome to enjoy their own adventures with Six Rivers Rafting, explore the scenic Trinity Alps, or simply relax nearby. This is an inclusive community experience where respect, cooperation, and positive participation are essential.
