The Adaptive Kayak Rental at North Park offers a 1-2 hour guided experience designed for paddlers with physical challenges who want to enjoy the serenity of North Park Lake. Participants can take a specially equipped solo sit-inside kayak onto the calm, wooded lake while observing wildlife and enjoying the outdoors. The program includes a professional safety and boat handling orientation, PFD fitting, and personalized paddle setup using hand and wrist adapters or a paddle pivot mount. The dockside crew assists with launch, on-water support, and recovery to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. Solo kayaks can hold up to 325 pounds, and paddlers aged 13-17 must have parent or guardian supervision depending on age.
Upon arrival at the North Park Boathouse, participants register, complete the waiver, and receive guidance from the kayak crew for adaptive equipment setup. Staff will help fit the PFD, adjust the paddle adapters, and assist in boarding and launching the kayak. After exploring the lake, the crew will safely return participants to the dock. Dry bags are available for rent to keep belongings dry, but participants are advised not to bring irreplaceable items as the organization is not responsible for loss or damage. The experience is ideal for anyone looking to enjoy paddling with adaptive support in a safe, guided environment while surrounded by nature.
