Experience the magic of Pittsburgh’s Fourth of July from the water on a two hour fireworks paddle along the Allegheny River. This intermediate level outing is designed for paddlers with some previous experience, providing a unique vantage point of the city’s skyline as it lights up during the fireworks show. Guests should arrive early to allow for parking and check in before departing from the launch at Fort Duquesne Boulevard. The group will paddle lightly around the river to reach an ideal viewing spot and remain there to enjoy the fireworks, with optional additional paddling afterward if time and interest allow. Children under thirteen ride in tandem kayaks with adults to ensure safety, while all participants must have their own tickets.
Guided by trained Excursionists and Volunteer Trip Leaders with night paddling expertise, participants will enjoy a safe and structured experience. The route is short, covering roughly half a mile to one mile, making it manageable while allowing everyone to focus on the spectacle above. Participants will receive necessary equipment including kayak lights, and staff will inspect personal kayaks for safety. The event runs rain or shine, so guests should wear quick drying clothes and closed toe shoes, and bring water to stay hydrated. A light jacket and optional headlamp are recommended for nighttime comfort.
