Join other BIPOC individuals for a guided kayak trip in Downtown and enjoy connecting with nature along the river. This slow-paced outing is beginner-friendly and designed for those with little to no paddling experience. Trip leaders from Kayak Pittsburgh will teach basic kayaking techniques on land before guiding participants on the water. The two-hour paddle covers roughly 1 to 1.5 miles and offers scenic views of the city from the river. Children under thirteen must ride in a tandem kayak with an adult, and all paddlers must meet the minimum age and weight requirements. This event creates a safe and welcoming space for BIPOC participants to enjoy the outdoors and connect with others who share similar experiences.
Participants are encouraged to wear quick-drying clothes and comfortable shoes that may get wet. The outing runs rain or shine, and everyone is responsible for their own safety and comfort. Rental kayaks are available for those without a personal boat, while participants bringing their own non-motorized kayaks must ensure the boat is seaworthy. Staff will inspect personal kayaks before the trip begins. By attending, participants acknowledge their ability to safely engage in the activity and are encouraged to bring water and dress appropriately for the weather. This paddle promises connection, relaxation, and a supportive group environment where participants can enjoy nature while learning basic kayaking skills.
